HappinessCounter
Abstract
HappinessCounter is a new digital appliance that naturally encourages the act of smiling in our daily lives. As William James stated, and confirmed by several psychological studies, the act of smiling positively affects on our mental status — we become happier when we laugh. However for people living alone, it may sometimes be difficult to realize when they are in low spirits and do not have a smile on their faces. Our HappinessCounter combines visual smile recognition, user feedback, and network communication and then the system makes it easy for users to smile and thus leads to happiness.
